The Bachelor of Design, Fashion Design, is for students who want to pursue careers as innovative designers. It sets out to deliver a clear understanding and experience of generating, developing and realising a variety of creative womenswear, menswear and accessory ideas to a professional standard. This specialisation offers highly motivated individuals a nurturing environment that champions originality and innovation.

Students are encouraged to develop their personal design vision within the context of an existing and expanding national and international fashion market, that incorporates both classic and innovative design concepts. The diversity of the fashion industry is conveyed through a varied curriculum, targeted projects and the guidance of established and visiting lecturers who are specialists in this sector. Throughout the course, the focus is on achieving the professionalism, innovation and creativity to develop and realise your design ideas.

Essential skills you will learn include design research methods, flat pattern cutting, modelling on the stand, garment construction, tailoring processes and finishing, technical specification, illustration and presentation, textile exploration, print making, marketing & branding.

Course structure

The Bachelor of Design specialising in Fashion Design is based on six trimesters with five subjects taught in each trimester. It comprises of 18 core subjects and 12 specialisation subjects. To qualify for the award of the degree Bachelor of Design a candidate shall accrue and aggregate of 288 credit points, including satisfactory completion of all subjects.

Equivalent overseas Senior School Certificate

English Language Requirements

  • Successfully completed previous studies in which the language of instruction, examination and assessment was in English, or
  • Completed an English proficiency test - minimum English standard Academic IELTS of 6.5 (with no band lower than 6.0) or TOEFL 79 -93.
