Short way to the top

Over 18 months, you’ll learn everything from making coffee to leading staff and budget management. You’ll also earn a Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate. You may start with a Certificate IV in your specialty area - hospitality, commercial cookery or patisserie – in the first 12 months and move straight into the diploma for a further six months. You’ll graduate job-ready for a manager’s role in a hotel, restaurant, resort, cafe, and function centre or cruise ship.

You will learn all the skills and knowledge required to succeed in a management role in Hospitality. We have fully operational restaurants, an equipped training bar and a simulated hotel reception facility. Our learning programs use the latest technologies and methodologies and we also offer on-the-job training for those currently working in the industry.

Pathways to further study

Melbourne Polytechnic provides seamless pathways towards higher qualifications. Successful completion of the Diploma of Hospitality Management will provide 8 subjects/1 year credit into Melbourne Polytechnic HETHTHM Bachelor of Hospitality Management.

Career Pathways

You may gain employment at the operational and supervisory level and also further management career opportunities in the general hospitality industry including hotels, motels, restaurants, clubs and other hospitality establishments.

Entry criteria

Academic: Australian Year 11 equivalency

English: Academic IELTS 5.5 with no individual band below 5.0, Pearson PTE Academic 42 overall with no individual communicative skill below 36, or Melbourne Polytechnic recognized equivalency. TOEFL iBT: 49 overall (Writing: 18, Speaking: 16, Reading: 8, Listening: 7); Cambridge English Scale (Cambridge: First (FCE), Cambridge: Advanced (CAE), Cambridge: Proficiency (CPE)): 162 overall (individual bands: 154); Melbourne Polytechnic: ELICOS - 2+ ISLPR overall individual bands: min ISLPR 2.
