Course Overview

Like Australia, most countries are facing an ageing population and are seeking solutions to cope with the care of their elderly. Aged Care Courses provides students with skills to use a person centred approach to assist with personal care, by using their clients individual care plans, promote healthy lifestyle and support their emotional wellbeing.

If you are looking for a rewarding career, then consider working with the elderly as an aged care worker. You will learn how to use a person centred approach while taking care of those that need assistance with their daily living. Looking after an elderly person requires a caring supportive and patient nature so that you can establish a trust and good relationship with your client.

Our Aged Care course delivery is a great combination ‘hands-on’ training in a simulation lab and up-to-date theory study in the classroom. This practical approach to training, along with work placement will make sure that our graduates are job-ready and able to excel in their chosen careers.

Job Outcomes

The program outcomes for this course are:

  • Workers qualified at a Certificate III level are primarily employed as a support worker in aged care, home and community care.
  • A study pathway to the Certificate IV in Ageing Support.
  • Preparation for further study and vocational skills with development of study and research skills, language and literacy skills, communication skills, time management, planning and managing projects, interpersonal skills and the development of techniques.

Additional outcomes include the attainment of a First Aid Certificate.

Amount of Training, Volume of learning, Mode of Study and Course Expectations

This program is timetabled for 600 hours over a course duration of 39 weeks. This time is divided into both training (on campus and self-paced) and assessment. Students will be required to attend the campus for 150 hours per term and engage in self-paced study of 50 hours per term.

The amount of training component is estimated at 80% of the students overall learning (480 hours) and the remaining 20% (120 hours) is attributed to assessment. If required, students have the option to further extend their training hours with additional catch up classes, study groups and resits as published in the timetable.

The volume of learning refers to the total amount of time that a student would be expected to dedicate to successful completion of the course. It includes the structured part of the course as defined above, as well as the self-study, research and practicing of skills that a student would do in their own time. The total Volume of Learning is estimated at 1000 hours (600 structured hours and 400 unstructured). Some students may find that they need more study time and others will find that they can achieve the required level of knowledge and skills in less time than this estimate.

Entry criteria

This is an entry level course and no previous skills or experience are necessary. The course is also suitable for learners who have professional qualifications in health or community services and are seeking a qualification that will give them practical skills to work in aged care or disability sectors.

Entrants must have:

Sufficient level of language, literacy and numeracy levels in order to interpret documents, learner guides and assessment tools, prepare written reports and plans.

Good communication and interpersonal skills in order to establish and manage professional networks and client relationships with clients of various ages and backgrounds.

The course is aimed at students 18 years of age and over

IELTS - 5.5 (with no individual band under 5.0); TOEFL Internet Based - 46; Cambridge English - CAE 162; PTE Academic - 42; OET - B.
