Summary

This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a broad range of tasks on a variety of light vehicles in the automotive service and repair industry.

The Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology prepares new employees or recognizes and develops existing workers performing mechanical work in the automotive light vehicle service and repair industry.

Course Structure:

To be awarded this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in 36 units of competency, consisting of 20 core units and 16 elective units. Training delivery will be in training rooms and in a simulated automotive workshop.

Assessment methods:

NMC use a range of assessment methods to determine overall competency requirements for this unit of competency, which includes but not limited to:

  • Written/Oral questions
  • Practical Demonstration
  • Written Assignment
  • Case studies and scenarios
  • Role play and class activities

Students are informed about specific assessment requirements at the beginning of each unit of competency along with submission/completion timeframe. As this is a competency-based training, outcome of the student assessment will be deemed Competent (C) or Not Yet Competent (NYC).

Entry criteria

Applicants should have successfully completed year an equivalent of Australian Year 12.

Students must be of age 18 or over at commencement of this course

International students applying for this course either off-shore or on-shore will require:

Either a minimum IELTS (General) test score of 5.5 or equivalent for direct entry into a VET course, TOEFL internet-based test – Score 46, Pearson Test of English Academic – score 42; Cambridge English: Advanced CAE from Cambridge ESOL Test Scores –162.
