The Graduate Certificate in Humanitarian Health aims to prepare students as they prepare for deployments in the humanitarian sector. Students will develop their existing knowledge and skills in how to manage the public and clinical health issues that arise in complex humanitarian environments, such as conflicts and natural disasters.

Students will gain an understanding of the history of humanitarian sector and the underlying humanitarian principles and values and complex ethical issues in practice; the humanitarian actors and changes in the humanitarian system. Students will explore the humanitarian programme cycle and how health program management applies to this cycle. Addressing specific public and clinical health issues for particular vulnerable groups in humanitarian crises will be explored.

The course will respond to a limited number of university accredited postgraduate courses in humanitarian health domestically and internationally. The course will build on the professional training and experience of students to provide more in-depth education and analytical focus for those who have experience or wish to gain employment in the humanitarian sector through attaining a qualification in humanitarian health.

Minimum course admission criteria - Bachelor’s degree or higher OR two years relevant work experience OR evidence of academic capability judged to be equivalent

IELTS: Overall 6.5 No band lower than 6

TOEFL IBT: 79 Writing 21; TOEFL PBT: 577 Writing 4.5

C1 PROFICIENCY and C2 PROFICIENCY: 176 No band less than 169

PTE: 58 No less than 50 in each skill

OET: Overall C+
