Summary

If you are an experienced health professional or graduate interested in working in the globally relevant field of public health, this degree gives you an opportunity to enrich and extend your professional expertise and undertake research in government, non-government, professional or community settings.

The degree offers an integrated program of research with supporting coursework in the first year. Through a combination of core and elective subjects, you will gain knowledge and skills in designing and conducting research, literature review techniques, critical analysis and writing for publication. You will pursue an independent and sustained investigation into a research problem of your own design that will culminate in the submission of a thesis for examination of 60,000 words.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 10 – Professional Doctorate.

Entry criteria

In order to apply for candidature, you should:
a) have graduated with or qualified for an Australian Master's degree at a minimum H2A standard or equivalent; OR
b) have graduated with or qualified for an Australian Bachelor's degree with an Honours year at a minimum H2A standard or equivalent; OR
c) hold qualifications and/or have demonstrated skills, experience, research, or publications, which in the opinion of the Board of Graduate Research are considered at least equivalent to, or are a satisfactory substitute for, any of the qualifications described in (a) and (b) above; AND
d) have at least three years of relevant professional experience.
Candidates may also be required to provide evidence of research expertise.

English language requirements

IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0

TOEFL Internet based (iBT): overall score of 79 with 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing.

Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE): overall score of 58 with no communicative skill score less than 50.

C1 Advanced: 176 with no less than 169 in any component.

C2 Proficiency: 176 with no less than 169 in any component.
