How you will learn

The Foundation Studies program is one year delivered over two semesters. It involves eight subjects and 21 hours of study per week.

You will have access to:

  • Student support – our staff are here to help you. They will provide advice, guidance, counselling and support as soon as you start.
  • Mentoring – the First 30 Days Program will offer you support guidance and reassurance as you settle into your new home here in Melbourne.
  • Social activities – we arrange welcome dinners, city and campus tours and other events to help you explore Melbourne, meet other students and have fun.

The program is delivered by RMIT Training, a company owned by RMIT University.

Entry criteria

You must have successfully completed a senior secondary school qualification equal to an Australian Year 11 with a minimum D average.

Meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee entry. Your application will still need to be assessed and accepted.

English language requirements

To study this program you will need to complete one of the following English proficiency tests:

  • IELTS (Academic): minimum overall band of 5.5 (with no individual band below 5.0)
  • TOEFL (Paper Based Test): minimum score of 530 (TWE 3.5)
  • TOEFL (Internet Based Test - IBT): minimum overall score of 50 (with minimum of 5 in Reading, 5 in Listening, 14 in Speaking and 15 in Writing)
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE (A)): minimum score of 42 (with no communication band less than 36)
  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): minimum of 162 with no less than 154 in any component.
