Summary
Do you have an interest in science and want to improve community wellbeing? Then our laboratory technology course is for you. This course will help you gain the skills and knowledge to work in scientific laboratories that conduct medical testing, biological, chemical or environmental testing.
You will study in a supportive environment with small class sizes. You can expect to learn practical scientific knowledge and technical skills that will expand your interest in science. The learning areas include:
You’ll learn how to plan and conduct laboratory work, use app software, analyse data and report your results.
Throughout your course, you’ll have the opportunity to use relevant instruments in modern laboratories to strengthen your practical experience. In the final year, you can showcase your laboratory skills to potential employers in our work placement program.
Pathways & Accreditation
After successful completion, you may wish to apply for entry into the second year (if eligible) of the Bachelor of Biosecurity which is offered at Box Hill Institute, you will be offered 24 credit points the equivalent of 6 months. Alternatively pathway options may include Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Laboratory Medicine) at RMIT where you will be eligible for 96 credit points; equivalent to 1 year credit transfer.
If you are an Inbound International student, you my wish to apply for entry into Bachelor of Biosecurity as a packaged course.

The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 5
Career Outcomes
After successful completion, you may wish to apply for a range of employment opportunities as a technical officer, laboratory assistant, and scientific officer. Other industry options may include quality assurance in private and government laboratories such as biological, environmental or chemical testing laboratories, secondary schools, medical research and pathology laboratories and pharmaceutical R & D laboratories.

International students must have successfully completed MSL40118 Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques (CRICOS M) or international equivalent
If you do not meet the entry requirements for this course, you may apply for the MSL40118 Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques (CRICOS M) with this course as a package offer.
Relevant senior employment experience in a science industry and can demonstrate equivalent skills and knowledge in any of the above qualifications will be considered.
PLEASE NOTE: Box Hill Institute only accept enrolments from International students who are 18 years of age or above at the time of course commencement.
English Language Requirements
A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic). A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based; Pearson Test (PTE): 46 (with no communicative skill score less than 42); Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): 162-168; Occupational English Test: Minimum score of D in each of the four components.
