Summary
Our laboratory techniques course provides you with the essential skills and knowledge to start your career in science. After completing this course, you can work as a technical officer or laboratory technician in a range of science based industries.
If you like to experiment, then you will gain hands on experience in our laboratories. You will gain technical skills and scientific knowledge in microscopy, chemistry, microbiology, histology and tissue culture. In highly practical classes, you will prepare your chemicals, equipment and learn how to use modern laboratory equipment as you undertake a wide range of analytical testing experiments.
These skills and knowledge will prepare you to work in a range of laboratory environments or you can use this course as your pathway into further studies in science.
Study Pathways
Successful completion will enable you to apply for the final year of the Diploma of Laboratory Technology or apply for entry into one of the science degrees offered at Box Hill Institute or another education provider.

International students must have completed an Australian Year 10 or international equivalent with a pass.
PLEASE NOTE: Box Hill Institute only accept enrolments from International students who are 18 years of age or above at the time of course commencement.
English Language Requirements
A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic). A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based; Pearson Test (PTE): 46 (with no communicative skill score less than 42); Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): 162-168; Occupational English Test: Minimum score of D in each of the four components.
