If you have a genuine interest in caring for older people then our course in individual support will help you gain essential, person-centred skills and knowledge to care for and support older people living in residential and aged-care facilities.

In this health course, you’ll learn how to provide physical and psychosocial support for older people, including how to:

  • support people who may be living with dementia and/or other illnesses
  • provide palliative care
  • prevent falls
  • support independence and wellbeing
  • develop communication skills in health and community services
  • work in aged care setting

You’ll understand how to comply with the accreditation requirements in the aged-care sector, and you’ll be ready to deliver outstanding customer service and support to older people.

During our individual support course, you can benefit from the opportunity to do a work placement with leading industry aged-care providers.

Career Outcomes

This course may provide you with aged-care employment opportunities in local government, community organisations and aged-care facilities and private nursing homes. As part of your work placement, most students will have the opportunity to work with leading aged care providers. On completion of your course, you may be offered employment by your workplace provider.

Pathways & Accreditation

Successful completion will enable you to apply for further studies in related health courses including in Certificate IV in Ageing Support, Certificate IV in Disability, Certificate IV in Allied Health or the Diploma of Nursing.

Entry criteria

International students must have completed:

  • Australian Year 10 or international equivalent with a pass

A minimum IELTS overall score of 6.0 (Academic). A minimum TOEFL score of 550 for paper examination;213 for computer based and 79 for internet based or approved equivalent.

PLEASE NOTE: Box Hill Institute only accept enrolments from international students who are 18 years of age or above at the time of course commencement.
