Our professional team of trainers share their experience and expertise to ensure you gain the latest industry knowledge.

Our partnerships with Barwon Health, St John of God Hospital, and other healthcare providers also provide excellent work placement and employment opportunities. The course covers anatomy and physiology, communication skills, medical terminology, infection control, legal and ethical issues associated with nursing, nursing patients with complex needs, administering medications, and nursing patients with mental health needs.

Work placement/industry experience

This course includes 400 hours (11 weeks) of placement including morning/afternoon shifts. Placement is organized by The Gordon and completed Monday to Friday in week-long blocks. You may be required to travel to your work placement, please consider this before applying. While on placement, you will be required to wear your Gordon shirt, blue or black pants and comfortable, enclosed shoes.

Changes to delivery due to COVID-19

The Gordon is utilising Gordon Online, our digital learning management system to ensure students continue to learn and reach their study goals during isolation. Classes are being delivered live (in real-time) using audio-visual delivery methods. Where on-campus attendance is required to complete practical learning and assessments, student numbers are being managed to ensure social distancing can be observed.

Further Study Options

The Gordon currently offers a pathway from the Diploma of Nursing into the Bachelor of Nursing at Deakin University. Students will receive 8 credit points (one year) into the Bachelor of Nursing, meaning that you will enter into the second year at Deakin University. Note: Only international students starting their Diploma of Nursing in the April, July and October intakes are eligible to apply for this pathway.

Entry criteria

Academic:

Successful completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent

IELTS (academic module). We only accept test results:

from one test sitting, or

a maximum of two test sittings in a six month period only if:

  • you achieve a minimum overall score of 7 in each sitting, and
  • you achieve a minimum score of 7 in each component across the two sittings, and
  • no score in any component of the test is below 6.5

OET. We will only accept test results:

from one test sitting, or

a maximum of two test sittings in a six month period only if:

you are tested in all four components in each sitting, and

  • you achieve a minimum score of B in each component across the two sittings, and
  • no score in any component of the test is below C.

PTE Academic. We will only accept test results:

from one test sitting, or

a maximum of two test sittings in a six month period only if:

  • a minimum overall score of 65 is achieved in each sitting, and
  • you achieve a minimum score of 65 in each of the communicative skills across the two sittings, and
  • no score in any of the communicative skills is below 58

TOEFL iBT. We will only accept test results:

from one test sitting, or

a maximum of two test sittings in a six month period only if:

a minimum total score of 94 is achieved in each sitting, and you achieve a minimum score of 24 for listening, 24 for reading, 27 for writing and 23 for speaking across the two sittings, and

no score in any of the sections is below:

20 for listening; 19 for reading; 24 for writing, and; 20 for speaking

Age/other requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or over at the time of course commencement.
